‘:bracket’ showcases the culmination of two years of focused studio practice and theoretical investigations by students who have undertaken the International Baccalaureate- Diploma Programme course in Visual Arts at St Andrew’s Cathedral School from 2015- 2016.
‘:bracket’ showcases the culmination of two years of focused studio practice and theoretical investigations by students who have undertaken the International Baccalaureate- Diploma Programme course in Visual Arts at St Andrew’s Cathedral School from 2015- 2016.
The name of this show reflects the various perceptions of the students regarding the process of making art at this stage of their lives. If the ‘bracket’ presents one way with the colon; it may be read as a smile, the other; and it becomes a frown. An extension of the metaphor would represent the implications of transitioning to the world outside of the familiar and safe school environment.
The studio work going on display is grounded in the aims of the IB DP Visual Arts programme where students are encouraged to challenge their own creative and cultural expectations and boundaries. Students devise their work by developing analytical skills in problem-solving and divergent thinking whilst working towards technical proficiency and confidence as art-makers.
