Candescence is an exploration of light as an extension of our presence in space, and its ability to project meaning and narrative. A highly saturated palette of monochromatic glazes creates tension between the familiar, and the alien and unnatural. These everyday spaces, void of an immediate human presence, are granted an unsettling stillness and silence.
Unconventional use of traditional glazing techniques has allowed Huw to create a series of oil paintings that sit half-way between the painterly and the photographic. Spanning a number of years, these works demonstrate a refinement in his concepts and techniques.
Biography:
Huw is a Sydney-based oil painter who’s practice focuses on the role light can play in transforming spaces and moments often overlooked in our everyday lives. He studied Fine Art at UNSW’s College of Fine Arts, and has had paintings exhibited in a number of painting competitions and group shows. Huw has been exhibited 3 times as part of the renowned Mosman Art Prize, this will be his first solo exhibition.
