Constructing Intimacy uses phenomenology as its foundation in order to view artworks as things of physical substance that we encounter. The show is an investigation of relationships; between the object and viewer and the connection between artists’ in the act of creating.

Constructing Intimacy uses phenomenology as its foundation in order to view artworks as things of physical substance that we encounter. The show is an investigation of relationships; between the object and viewer and the connection between artists’ in the act of creating.
The exhibition is a result of three artist collaborations creating new works that deal with our awareness of ourselves, others and objects. We are invited to engage our senses through multi-channel installations that aim to trigger euphoria in its viewers. We explore the physical properties of the object and find new meanings for forgotten materials. And we are asked if perception is a consequence of our environment or is it something we form on our own.
Constructing Intimacy encourages us to see things in a different light and to question our perceptual engagement through art making. The resulting works are largely open-ended and a product of discussion and evolution.

Their multi-channel installations invite audiences to experience a bodily encounter which is both unsettling and enchanting. This will be the collective’s official debut.”

“Meg Driver and Lauren Patricia discovered how their discarded objects and forgotten experiments could take on a new order; in the clean but intimate space of the corner. Their installation work brings inside/outside surfaces together in a new formal space that cannot be easily categorised. The combination of surfaces makes visible things they were previously unable to see and in doing so finds a new poetic of intimacy.”

“When an individual is believed to be shaped and influenced by their environment, it can be assumed that their perspective will be largely a by-product of that environment. As in this instance perspective becomes merely a matter of circumstance; in this work we seek to explore what this may mean in a photographic context and more specifically, within a gallery setting.”
