Dust Collector - " An item or belonging with no purpose in life other than to sit on a shelf and collect dust"

INFORMATION

Dust Collector - " An item or belonging with no purpose in life other than to sit on a shelf and collect dust"

In this project I wanted to question the real attachments we have to those objects that we keep overs the years. Illustrate the items that do literally collect dust but also hold their weight in memories.

Margaret Olley left this world having bequeathed all her contents to the Lismore Regional gallery.

22,000 dust collectors that are now available for other inspired artists to look at and ask the question - with out these items would she have been such a prolific painter?

And what physiological part of Olly grew so reliant on these items? Did it induce a state of calm and productiveness due to its chaotic nature?

I know from my own experience I like to have everything organised before i paint, however does this hinder the creative nature from its true expression?

In this exhibition I hope to unite people in their expressions of self through the objects they collect and to explore the common thread between attachment and "function".
