The adage ‘the grass is always greener on the other side’ became the perfect theme for a joint exhibition of new work presented by designer-makers, Radka Passianova and Doris Jurzak.
Both Radka, a European who lives in Australia, and Doris, an Australian who craves being in Europe, interpreted this shared theme to develop and produce several small series of jewellery and objects.
Their work explores the concept of competing options and individual paths taken, whether through choice or circumstance, and their consequences.
Doris Jurzak is a Sydney-based multi-disciplinary designer-maker.
A graduate of Jewellery and Object Design and Jewellery Manufacture from Design Centre Enmore, Doris also has extensive skills and experience relating to textiles and surface design.
Founded in more experimental exhibition work, her jewellery practice is now focused on the design and production of wearable, limited edition and bespoke pieces. Doris is attracted to the flexibility of contemporary jewellery, the technical aspects of fine jewellery, and the infinite possibilities that come from combining the two.
Her inspiration is usually from human behaviour, together with patterns and forms found in nature. Line and repetition, together with curved forms, tend to feature in her designs.
Radka Passianova is a Sydney-based Jewellery and Object Designer.
Born in Prague, Radka gained her design and silversmithing training in Sydney, including an Advanced Diploma of Jewellery and Object Design from Design Centre Enmore and a Master of Design in Objects and Accessories from University of Technology Sydney.
She has participated in a multitude of notable exhibitions, competitions, and collaborations on major silversmithing commissions and other creative projects across Australia.
While continuing to hone her skills, Radka has experimented extensively with metal and other materials. Her primary experimental motivation comes from her interaction with student’s work while teaching practical classes at Design Centre Enmore and participating regularly in exhibitions.
Radka’s creative inspiration stems from her travels and interest in current global issues. As a result, her aesthetics lean towards simplicity, with an element of subtle surprise, emulating the complex simplicity of life.
