Horizons focuses its attention on the spiritual presence and sublime impact of the Australian landscape, which is unique due to its history and physical vastness.

INFORMATION

Horizons is an exhibition of recent works which explore the Australian landscape. The show studies various components of our landscape and its geographical imagination. Our understanding of a landscape is not only a product of its physical presence but is impacted by historical, cultural and personal baggage.  Sarah Dugan’s art practice researches the relationships between these lenses which affect our emotional and physical response to environments. Horizons focuses its attention on the spiritual presence and sublime impact of the Australian landscape, which is unique due to its history and physical vastness. It draws on narratives, history and fragments of nostalgia which are interwoven within our environment, examining the boundaries between tangible and ethereal. By breaking down cultural and symbolic systems that construct a landscape Sarah’s work continues to pick apart an understanding of our environments on physical, psychological and cultural levels.
