Interior Castles is what was revealed to Teresa of Avila, as the “most beautiful globe of crystal, in the shape of a castle, with seven rooms,” to describe one’s journey through the gates to the higher life in the divine. Taking this imagery, the exhibition reflects on the psychophysical aspect of the spiritual life, seeking dialogue in how we experience the world and relate to each other in the everyday. The work is a contemplation of the mysterious, revealed through actions of the body that penetrates at different levels of consciousness. While this consciousness is immediate to the senses, it desires access to the deepest depths of understanding within the human body, and without, the divine revealed outside of its interiority.
Eleanor De Pasquale is a Sydney born artist who currently studies the Bachelor of Visual Arts at Sydney College of the Arts. Her work delves into the combined realm of photography and textile garment making, and exhibits them in a state in which one medium cannot be present without the other.
Ba An Le’s art practice focuses on contemporary jewellery influenced by his digital and sculptural background. He uses a wide range of materials which are assembled together revealing how he constructs the objects with attention on materiality as a vehicle for meaning. Living in Sydney, Australia, he explores his immediate context for themes of identity, religion, and spirituality. In 2017, he has been to Israel for a study exchange, a workshop in the Netherlands, and recently completed a residency in Estonia. Le has been understanding his travels as a dialogue of encounters with the world, and relationships with people. This places in context his experience of travel, and jewellery. Le makes himself vulnerable to the giving and receiving of cultures to better understand jewellery as a universal phenomena, and increasingly have a universal character to his art.
