Silvi Glattauer is a practicing photomedia artist from Melbourne, Australia
A founding member of The Baldessin Press & Studio, Silvi is recognised as an authority on the Photopolymer Photogravure process as well as working with a range of other photographic processes.
The central themes in Silvis work relate to nature, and narratives. There is a connecting thread about materiality, about object, and about preciousness.
Her images are about beauty as felt by the sense of sight and touch. Silvis approach is to collect, to archive, to classify and to record. Her narratives are strongly related to storyboards of time and places.
Silvi has exhibited through out Australia and abroad, most recently at the Museum of Victoria and three times Boweness shortlisted finalist. Major achievements also include winning the prestigious Nillumbik Prize and commissioned by the Victorian government to create a documentary series for bushfire recovery and memorials in 2014 and 2016. Selected artist in residence for Print Residence, Barcelona and Inkmasters, Cairns.
Silvi’s work is held in many private and public collections, including the Murray Art Museum Albury (MAMA) and Geelong Regional Galleries, Melbourne Museum, State Library Victoria, Monash Gallery of Art and Nillumbik Shire council.
La Puna de Atacama – Series 2017
These, Altiplanic landscapes are topographical storyboards exploring a personal narrative of identity that pendulates between Australia and Argentina.
Eternal and elusive, silent yet present, a shadow less landscape that offers extensive spaces, provides an opportunity to disconnect from the tangible and obvious visual elements one would associate with traditional landscape photography.
The Atacama plateau (La Puna) extends through the Andes of north west Argentina, northern Chile and southern Bolivia.
