Three friends who have known each other, and seen each other through, the major life events — births, deaths, marriages and many fine meals — whose lives seem to have now met at a particular point of artistic interest, connected through places — both at home and abroad — and what you unexpectedly come across on the journey and what you find once you have arrived at your destination.
Margaret has done lots of small landscape sketches and paintings over the last couple of years as she wanders around, turning large landscapes into small. This is aside from her usual art practice which has included oil, collage, encaustic and a touch of sculpture. She is often opinionated, and to fit with the theme of the exhibition, the states of Australia have been described as characters rather than landscapes.
Pamela has been inspired by glimpses, details, found objects and scenes of whatever caught her eye during her travels in recent years around Australia and overseas — anything from a vista seen through a hotel or car window to the food she ate along the way — captured here in watercolour, pencil, mixed media and printmaking.
Jamie’s digital dioramas are inspired by themes of innocence — lost, real and imagined — juxtaposing people, transport, places and moments in time. The process of making each diorama involves firstly photographing little scale model cars and motorcycles, then blending them using Photoshop into a mix with his own photos and other images sourced online so the final images can be viewed on a digital screen.
