INFORMATION

Two-Thirds Abstract is an interdisciplinary exhibition that explores the symbiotic relationship between abstraction and representation. Although the exhibition’s title serves as a convenient summary of who is and who isn’t working with abstraction, it also points to a broader artistic concern: whether the work purports to be abstract or representational, it will always contain traces of both. Two-Thirds Abstract is an exhibition that explores the unavoidably hybrid nature of abstract and representational. The exhibited artworks span from subjective reality to geometric abstraction, to a subtle synthesis of both. Amongst the exhibited work is a shared enthusiasm for materiality and craftsmanship. Through the artists’ thoughtful manipulation of colour, line and mass, their works seek to reveal a distilled and distinguished response to the physical world as well as an inner artistic one. Two-Thirds Abstract presents a moment in the artists’ personal journey with their medium and subject matter.
