In their final year of the Master of Art at UNSW Art and Design Heather, Brenton and Cecilia share gallery4 at gaffa, as part of their Capstone Project. Each artist has a wall to present an individual body of work from their self-directed art practice. This exhibition provides an insight into their diverse, evolving and emerging practices within the contemporary creative industries.
Bios:
Heather Clarke
Heather is a practising artist who works across the disciplines of painting, photography, printmaking, ceramics and sculpture.She is drawn to portraiture and its ability to share aspects of the emotions along with people's personal experiences. Currently Heather is studying at UNSW Art and Design in the Master of Art degree. Along with her practice, she works as a hairdresser in an aged care facility.
Brenton Schwab
Brenton’s two passions are art and nature. Both involve experimenting and observing. His enthusiasm for art started in the1980s. In 2016 he moved to Sydney to paint full-time and began post graduate art studies at UNSW. Abstract images have been a constant thread throughout his practice, starting with an ‘expressionistic’ style and shifting toward PostMinimalist, Non-Objective influences. Brenton’s love of experimenting also includes digital, photographic and figurative techniques within his practice.
Cecilia Boyd
Experience of remote, rural settings informs Cecilia's practice. Her narrative centres around disruption of natural environment, embedding emotion and ecological consequence within images. Conceptually, Cecilia’s science background allows an awareness of visual processing including spatial arrangement and perceptual analysis. Representations are often boundaryless, static and fluid, defined and blurred; interpreting complex, captivating landscapes. A process of mark making and erasure aligns with disturbance, revealing vulnerabilities, yet perceptions of permanence and timelessness.
