INFORMATION

Exhibition Statement

This installation is a generated artist statement, an idea of an artwork.

The art jargon and descriptions of art often give the audience a sense of bafflement. Some artist statements seem to be loosely translated French, or curated art speak that perfectly defines “tautology”. By taking vocabularies that are used to describe art, this installation resembles the experience of understanding and imagining art, whether it is exhaustion or confusion or entertainment.

It takes a self-referential approach and bypasses optical stimulation, leaving the creation and realisation of the artwork to the individual audience. The work questions whether the idea would suffice as an artwork, whether the concept of art can replace the actual work.  Whether the signifier can replace the signified in conceptual art viewing.
