This exhibition brings together the recent work of Nick and Keiran Gordon, two brothers who approach art making from different directions but whose work occasionally, almost converges.
Keiran Gordon
In these unstable and nihilistic times I have been thinking a lot about the concept of joy. I sought through these works to project a free flowing vibrancy and exuberance through abstractions that are attractively floral in nature. These paintings are intended to feel shapeless, weightless and intense, reminiscent of pleasurable feelings that are fleeting and never wholly defined. My works are candy wrappers for thoughts, subjects and figurations to be interpreted by the viewer. They themselves have no weight or reverence, but they are invitations to a reality that is for a moment just that bit sweeter.
Nick Gordon
I am inspired by cities: as sheer physical entities, as literary tropes that provide gravity to a mental universe, and as collections of urban structures that affect our relationship to a natural, organic other. My work usually begins with the colour/sound of a place, a kind of key signature that I translate into a few lines. These lines form a basic structure, through which I weave a rhythm and melody of line and colour. The works are not landscapes or portraits of places - they are songs fusing immediate experiences with memories and associations with what I have been reading, listening to and looking at while walking around the place.
