INFORMATION

Exhibition Statement

Brother, sister, father, son, mother, daughter, aunt, partner, nephew, niece and friend.

Six artists, connected by family and a 70-year-old migration cycle with the Netherlands, interpret their individual positions within this global ‘entanglement’.

Using creative license, the artists, from Newcastle, Braidwood, the Blue Mountains and the Netherlands, present landscape paintings, sculpture and digital media that explore the concept of Quantum Entanglement. With a nod to Schrödinger’s cat and Einstein’s 'spooky action at a distance', the artists investigate: existing in two places simultaneously; togetherness despite distance; shifts in time and scale; split vision; and imaginary memories.

The practice of the artists is diverse, including painting, sculpture, printmaking, animation and installation art and the group has produced several children’s books. As a collaborative effort the artists will contribute to a miniature streetscape from The Hague, the Netherlands.

Where we are from and where we have found ourselves is an integral part of the exhibition’s theme.
