In my series of paintings, drawings and prints I have created artwork/compositions that represent aspects of fashion in our lives in various art media formats, such as oil paintings, drawings, prints that reflect my ideas on fashion.
The garments we wear can affect our mental state in both positive and negative ways, with each outfit we communicate non-verbally to others and the outside world. What we wear becomes part of expressing who we are because fashion is away to express ourselves, our identity and how we feel. The clothes we wear daily reflect the way we want others to perceive us and how we see ourselves.
Dressing how you want to feel is a way to embody the state of mind and to shape other people's perception in a positive way. Clothes signify how we want to be treated, what social group we belong to or want to be accepted into. Acceptance for who we are and what we wear gives us peace of mind; wearing clothes we like can give a positive affect to our mental state.
One of the main reasons why people spend long hours searching for the right outfit is to avoid criticism. Basically, people don’t want to be judged by others on how bad they look.
My artwork practice started once I left Melbourne and moved to Sydney in the mid 1980’s, after gaining formal art education East Sydney Tech (National Art School Darlinghurst) I operated an art studio in Sydney Menzies Arcade near Pitt Street. In the early to mid-2000 my art practice was as a Graphic design and illustrator for Mining and later Defence departments. I started to paint for exhibitions and competitions during the mid-2000 when in Victoria; I took part in various group exhibitions at Ballarat Regional Art Gallery, Avoca Information Centre, and Chapel St Gallery South Yarra for “ArtTown”. Demonstrated portrait painting to the public at Morning Peninsula Art Group, Mt Best Community Centre South Gippsland where sold I paintings and illustrations. More recently I have been selected for the Fleurieu Food Wine & Art Prize Mclaren Vale, and 2020 selected for the Invitation art prize at Live in Gallery Surry Hills NSW the Awards were held and exhibited in the Hotel Intercontinental Double Bay.
