this project came as a compulsion to represent a series of emotions emerging from the city... last year for unexpected reasons i found myself tourist in the metropolis i used to call home... a number of earthquakes had shaken the land, three years between encounters and i was surprised to find empty blocks amongst an overtly crowded mass of people and concrete... entire lives, belongings and feelings engulfed by the strength of the earth... only streets remain on it’s place, evident mark of human effort in the land... i find hard to recognize whether it was gentrification or a power beyond, but architecture is replaced, rethought, restructured... streets remain, paved, patched, widened... i see a map, a pattern, a GEOGRAPHY OF SCARS... ever growing commodity networks... consume, consume, plug yourself...
the intervened section of the map depicted is chimalhuacán, specifically an area called “la mina” (the mine)...
there’re three outputs from the main piece... positive (as discarded architecture) negative (as scars) and the traced (the ab/use... understanding and movement through space)...
there’s no limit to a body that keeps expanding, exploring, falling, consuming... connectivity networks, endless intersections... traversing walls, architectures fade, there’s only scars.. traces of movement... it all becomes meaningless lines when represented singularly... routes and broken interactions... i want to see the entirety, find a meaning amongst dis/ordered chaos... human impact ends where the city begins and viceversa...
