“Line of thought” presents an ongoing body of abstract work engaging with the aesthetic of ‘graphics’; drawing on common underlying qualities found in contemporary visual culture such as diagrams, memes, infographics, text, and interfaces.

INFORMATION

Contrary to the highly communicative function of graphics, these works are devoid of specific content, and instead playfully stage relationships between the basic formal elements of line, shape, and colour.

The mostly linear compositions are built from an evolving syntax of arcs, ellipses, and intervals; a growing system of rules dictating the position of each line, informing the composition as a whole.

Ross holds a Master of Fine Arts (by Research) from UNSW Art & Design, Sydney, and was a recipient of the Australian Postgraduate Award. Ross has participated in solo and group exhibitions across various Artist Run Initiatives and Regional Galleries, including Wellington St Projects, 2019; Kudos Gallery, 2016; Archive Space, 2014; Paper Plane, 2012; The Paper Mill, 2011; Casula Powerhouse, 2009; and the Blacktown Arts Centre, 2009.  Ross has been a finalist in The Tim Olsen Drawing Prize, Jenny Birt Award and Australian Decorative and Fine Arts Society Scholarship. He has been awarded an Art and Design Grant in 2014, and the William Fletcher Grant in 2009.
