RE-INFLECTION explores the psychogeographic narrative of urban and suburban spaces. The lines of each sculpture intervene in the image-making process, taking spaces both familiar and mundane and fragmenting them whilst connecting them together in new ways.
Artist Statement
Each sculpture is displayed in its own tray of water and viewers are encouraged to take their own photos and reinterpret the gallery space through the same process, becoming active participants in reimagining the landscapes around them.

A moment of solitary introspection suddenly brings a vision of your surroundings.From the gutter, a theatre is born.
Each player with their own convictions, their own reading of the spectacle:
‘The city is…’
You are caught in a whirlwind of stories: theirs and yours.
‘The street is…’
Every thing is already framed, sorted into what it is and is not.
‘The buildings are…’
You walk around and the structures move as the wind bends and ripples steel.
It is ephemeral. Re-read, re-envisioned, re-related.
Artist Bios
Thomas Sandberg is an artist and graduate of the National Art School (2019). His practice includes sculptural explorations of spatial encroachment and urban connectivity, as well as experimental drawing exploring interaction, collaboration and chance. Thomas has exhibited in numerous group shows including Some Thing at GAFFA Gallery 2020, New Animism at Good space 2019, andSculpture on the Green at Yawway Artist Platform 2020. He was a recipient of the Armoury Steel Sculpture Residency Prize at the conclusion of his BFA at theNational Art School, as well as the Clyde & Co Art Award. He is currently in collaboration with artists and curators in preparation for upcoming exhibitions in 2021.
Mateus Brandão has been using photography to explore reflections since early 2018, with a particular focus on using puddles, water features and other bodies of water in urban and suburban environments. He has created three different zines showcasing his work, and documents his work on Instagram as @puddle_boi.
