Artist Statement

Solitude is a prism through which something unfocussed can eventually be seen clearly.   It is the very absence of distractions brought about by solitude that allows us to experience the drug called life with joy.

Artist Bio –Diana Chew

Diana Chew started her art journey with a Groupon voucher to paint a “masterpiece” in four (4) hours.  In this case of curiosity killed the cat, satisfaction certainly brought this cat to further explore the world of art.  In order to paint better, Diana felt that she needed to lay a more solid foundation in drawing and attended the‘Start Drawing for Beginners’ and ‘Drawing from the Imagination’ Summer School courses at the National Art School in 2018.

From there, Diana continued to explore other mediums and techniques, such as watercolour, landscape painting in oils, still life in pastels and even print media.  One of Diana’s hand coloured lino prints was selected for the Artists of Mosman 2088 Exhibition in 2019.  From there, she furthered her interest in print media by attending a Japanese Woodblock print workshop at the Karuizawa Mokuhanga School in Japan.

Diana decided to have an exhibition early last year to maintain her focus on her art journey.  To her, the ability to express her creativity is important. It keeps her connected with who she is. She is currently continuing her art education on a part-time basis at the Julian Ashton ArtSchool.

Working 9-5, I know there’s gotta be more to life than work.

Photography is my tool to discover that ‘more’.

Photography allows me to slowdown and capture a moment I’d otherwise miss.

Those moments are forever.

Those moments help fill in the gaps for me and let me see the world in a way that wouldn’t otherwise be possible.
