This exhibition is the result of investigation into the intersection of light and jewellery via reflection and transparency.
In my recent work I have been exploring light and colour. This manifests visually through material choice. Conceptually, I am interested in how these can shift our perception of what is going on around us. At its simplest this connects to how we see but also how light and colour can impact on us metaphysically. Culturally, looking and seeing are loaded processes; they can intersect but do not necessarily have the same results. These tensions are what I am working with.
This series takes commonplace signs and symbols as the starting point. They rely on an assumption- that they will be interpreted in a universal fashion - for their effectiveness. By dislocating these signs from their origins, or making minimal adjustments to their configuration, meaning can be shifted.
