Untitled explores the nature of bound and ritual space and how individual identity and status is lost as we experience a ‘stay’ that is betwixt and between. Drawing on anthropologist Arnold Van Geenep’s ‘processual form of passage’, the work explores place and our ability to construct a cultural realm that is ‘out’ of time.
The liminal period is one of ambiguity in which the basic building blocks of society are exposed. In opposition to the ‘ordinary world’ this period provides an inter-structural situation – one that is beyond, or to one side, of society’s structure of positions. As such, it provides an opportunity for ‘becoming’ or undergoing a process of change.
During the liminal period the “passenger / participant” is ambiguous – they undertake common activities ‘en mass’ that are voluntary but have elements of obligation. For example, string wrapped, tied and knotted, movement within a bound / limited space, and obligation to each other.

Renay Pepita – Artist / Performer
Pepita is a contemporary visual artist living in Sydney. Her relational based practice draws on the everyday, exploring themes of loss, mediation, liminality and knowledge. Working in mixed media, Pepita’s practice includes installation, works on paper, sound, video, and durational performance. Pepita has a BA in Art History, UQ, a MA from Art & Design, UNSW and has a studio as part of the ARI, Articulate Project Space, in Leichhardt, Sydney. Martin Fox – Collaborating Artist / Editor
Fox's interests lie in the dialogue between the audience and the work, and how this communication can be nurtured and formed, such that the audience bring much of themselves to the story being told. He crosses multiple genres including
performing arts, TV broadcast, and feature films and holds a BA in Fine Arts from Sheffield Polytechnic, UK. He has been the video artist on projects by DeQuincy Co, Ruckus, Raghav Handa, Linda Luke and Dean Walsh, director for My Generation, Bloodlinks and Friends of Dorothy, and The Last Goldfish together with multiple feature productions for ABC and SBS.
Michael Ward – Collaborating Artist / Sound
Ward is a musician and artist with over 50 album and live performance credits with artists including Eve, Patsy’s Wake, Night Radio, Katie Brianna, Adam Young, Dylan Hartas, Slowdowns, Louis Tillett, The Remains, Hoo Haas, Justin Wahlin, Toni Swain and the late Ian Rilen. As a visual artist he has held solo shows in Sydney and recently commenced collaborating with artist and partner, Pepita including their performance /video work, Untitled [Distant / Near] exhibited at AT10 in Leichhardt Sydney.
