This exhibit is curated by a student researcher as a part of a Master’s Thesis project in Cultural Materials Conservation. Its purpose is to explore whether digital substitutions for original objects can be used effectively in a museum environment, and at which point a digital representation of an object becomes an effective replacement for the original. Three archaeological artifacts are presented through photographs, 3D models, and digital reconstructions, in an effort to improve access to and understanding of the millions of objects stored in museum collections around the world that never go on display.
